Conviction Overturned?

This morning I won't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes that Andrea Yates' conviction was overturned in her capital murder case for the drowning death of her FIVE children. What in God's name is wrong with the court system???

Did she or did she not kill her children? My feeling is yes she did though I believe to do something like that you'd have to be a bit mentally ill which I can believe that she was. But holy crap to overturn a conviction on the grounds that a witness lied about an episode of Law & Order....oh please. Yes the woman obviously suffered from some extreme postpartum depression (note to Andrea....stop having children after having depression after every birth...do'h). I believe she knew what she was doing was wrong and I believe that her punishment was just and fair. What I don't believe is that she deserves a new trial for a few reasons;

1. Both sides agree she's guilty though of course the defense feels that she had no clue what she was doing.
2. Hasn't she suffered enough really? I don't feel she's a cold-blooded killer by any means of the imagination.
3. A new trial isn't going to bring her kids back.

Oh and I have no love lost for her husband Russell. He blames everyone from the medical community to mental health providers to the court system for either failing to help his wife or victimizing her. If he could see she was so depressed and suffering from postpartum depression then why did he leave her day in and day out with all the kids??? Why did they keep having children?? Why didn't he force her to get help if he loved her and the children so much??

We'll see this played out in the media from years to come and have to hear over and over the gruesome details that may be better left unheard. God Bless her children.

Peace
